Celebrating Trowbridge

We received a request to attend the Celebrating Trowbridge Community Fair to be held on February 8th 2020. It was a real honour for us and also a very useful tool. Attending meant that we could have an oportunity to network and reach out to new potential helpers, funders and members. A great chance to wave the Honeypot flag but also a great deal of hard work to organise and get together.

As you will see Dave and Kerry made a stand and used images of what we do to show people who had never heard of us or even thought of a day centre. On the day we were the only group of our kind in a sea of 200 or so stands. So this was a good opportunity for us.

Dave and Kerry went in early and set up the stand. The doors opened at 10:15am and by then Pete and Margaret had joined them. All morning various people were engaged and spoken to, with Pete and Margarate taking the lead. Many leaflets were handed out, so many in fact that Dave had to nip home and print more! Lance, Betty, Lady Barbara and Andrew all came to show support in the afternoon. Even Barbara popped by.

Many people who came to the community fair showed an interest in what we do, quite a number wondered if they could become members. Over half a dozen showed interest in volunteering to become helpers. We look forward to welcoming them in time. It's a sad fact that we are always in need of volunteers, especially volunteer drivers.

It was a great pleasure to meet with Trevor Hicks the town crier and also meet David Cavill, the Mayor of Trowbridge. Both were impressed by what we do and agreed to look out for us. We also had the pleasure of meeting representatives of the Wiltshire Community Foundation, one of our key funders. Rosemary, their Chief Executive was pleased to see pictures of what we do and equally pleased to have one taken with us.

We talked and talked and talked, doing our best to get our little message out.

When the community fair closed at 4pm we were all worn thin but it was clear that a good job had been done. Once again massive thanks to everyone that helped and also to everyone that stopped by for a chat and took a leaflet, thanks guys.
